Business for Good: SEADS in Cambodia’s first Social Enterprise Series will consist in three lunchtime panel discussions held in 2013: Technology for Good on January 25th, Finance for Good on February 1st, and Retail for Good on February 2nd.

The series as a whole will address broad questions regarding the pros and cons of social enterprises:

  • in technology: How does one engineer solutions and create platforms to better implement them?
  • in the finance and finance-related sectors: "Throwing money at the problem won't solve it" but in what ways can it, and does it, have social impact?
  • in the retail industry: In what ways can we maximize social impact while retaining a sustainable business model? What is ethical consumerism?

Each panel will run an hour-long and will be followed by a networking lunch during which attendees and panelists, as well as invited partners, will be able to continue the conversation started by the panel discussion.

Why "Business for Good"?

We believe that with the development of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs in all major companies and with the rising concern for sustainability (whether environmental or economic), social enterprise is at the forefront of starting our global response to dealing with poverty, lack of access to education, gender equality, and many other issues.

Questions we would like to answer through these lunchtime discussions include: Do these initiatives actually have a social impact and are they beneficial to all parties involved? How can we measure social impact?

Our main goals with the series are to:

  • Create and increase awareness of issues currently being addressed by social entrepreneurs
  • Give an overall sense of what kinds of business models exist and how they work
  • Provide a platform for dialogue and collaboration related to these endeavors
